2022 In-Person Camp

2022 In-Person Camp

These camps are for students interested in computer, math, science, and medicine. The camps will focus on the role of genomics in diseases and symptoms and guide students in performing computational biology research using patient RNA expression data to identify genes related to certain diseases. There will be a separate basic genomics session to accommodate students who have not taken first year high school biology. Students will learn basic AI concepts in identifying diseases.

Thank you for your interest in our computational biology camp.

For session 1 (July 18-22 dates)we are currently full and additional applications will go on the waitlist. Please consider other dates since all CB camps have the same content (though pursuing different projects).

Please consider the two-week option only if you are curious and willing to fully engage in our camps for the extended time (we also have lots of fun games throughout the week). The Michigan Institute for Computational Discovery and Engineering (MICDE) will provide access to the University of Michigan’s high performance computing system Great Lakes Slurm cluster for all 2nd week campers to run COVID-19 patient data in a Linux environment.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Academically motivated current (2021-22) high school and incoming 9th grade students interested in computers, math, science, and medicine.

FEE (one week): $645* (Basic MVP membership is included for all campers.)

*If you have a premium membership and this your first camp, the price is $525.00. If this is your second camp, the price is $565.

You may want to consider premium membership.

After reviewing your essay in the registration form, we will inform you regarding acceptance within 7-10 business days. If accepted, you will be sent payment options. Limited partial scholarships are available for financially-challenged students such as those in a free or reduced lunch program. Proof of income is required.

REGISTRATION FEE: $35 (your registration is finalized after the fee is received).

Students with camp certificates will be qualified to become miRcore volunteers. Students in the high school volunteer program, which runs throughout the school year, determine a disease of focus for the year, collaborate with similar level students in researching the disease, and found/lead a school club GIDAS (pronounced guide-us; Genes in Diseases and Symptoms). Out-of-state students can join the volunteer meetings through an online meeting platform.
