Involvement Opportunities
MiRcore offers wide-ranging and exciting activities in MVP.
You can view the committee Officer Board here!

Education Committee
Are you passionate about learning and sharing knowledge? The Education Committee is dedicated to creating engaging and impactful resources for all miRcore, learning collaboratively through exciting projects, and organizing national research workshops. We also host office hours and run the miRcore podcast!

Fundraising Committee
Come join us for some fun-raising! We make up the backbone of MVP fundraising through our endless bake sales, Busch’s fundraisers, business donation proposals, and merch runs! We are committed to our goal of reaching the $10,000 for the microgrant – but also the goal of teaching everyone in MVP essential fundraising, leadership, and organization skills!

GIDAS Support Committee
Do you want an opportunity to lead, inspire, and communicate? We support all the school GIDAS clubs across the world to democratize medical research and organize opportunities for contests, workshops, fundraising, and more!

Southern California Committee
Living in the Southern California region? Join the SoCal committee to get involved in planning, managing, and promoting local workshops, in-person meetings, and fundraisers! We work to support other committees (such as education, fundraising, GIDAS support, etc) on a regional level, and like other regional committees, we are the on-site management and execution team for in-person initiatives in our area (such as the SoCal middle school biology workshop and in-person MVP meetings). Hope to see all fellow SoCal-ers here!

Northern California Committee
Are you near the Bay Area? Join us for in-person meetings, fundraisers, and Q&A sessions with biotech experts! Gain experience in planning events and posting on social media to connect Norcal MVPers.

Public Relations Committee
Hi! We work on building the public image of miRcore, and promoting different events and fundraisers through social media.

Northeastern / Regional Committees Executive Branch
Are you interested in serving your community? The executive regional branch committee oversees the creation and logistics of individual regional branches, helping expand miRcore’s presence across all regions of the United States and internationally. From organizing fundraisers to coordinating workshops, we support local leaders in each region and help them bring their initiatives to life.

Business Committee
We are an international team of students who support the planning, execution, and growth of miRcore’s programs in the most efficient, data-driven way possible. Members apply skills in programming, data science, leadership, and communication to ensure that all facets of this massive organization run efficiently. This committee’s objective is to advance citizen science, drive organizational growth, build a close-knit community of consultants and leaders, and explore the intersection between business and healthcare in the context of miRcore’s operations.

MiRcore Science Advocacy (MSA)
miRcore Science Advocacy started in 2021 as miRcore Vaccine Advocacy as a group of students dedicated to addressing vaccine hesitancy with empathetic communication skills and mythbusting. Now, the scope of our advocacy has expanded to advocating for awareness of neurological diseases, genetic testing opportunities, and mental wellness. Students meet weekly to plan events for their fellow members to educate them on core advocacy issues and facilitate skill-building workshops to empower members to be advocates in their own communities.
SciRead
Purpose: Bridge the gap between reading and understanding research through discussion and debate.
Goals: Build analysis, public speaking, and teamwork skills; contribute to scientific discourse.
Meetings: Read, summarize, and discuss papers in breakout rooms; prep for deeper analysis and debates.
Small RNAseq
Research
Small RNAseq research is a branch of miRcore that focuses on advancing our understanding of small non-coding RNAs and their roles in health and disease. Through in depth data analysis, literature review, and experimental design, members explore the biological significance of small RNAs—such as tRNA fragments (tRFs), miRNAs, and other regulatory molecules. The projects generate novel insights that contribute to the broader scientific community, particularly in areas like small RNA research, viral infections, and neurodegeneration. Students gain hands-on research experience and present their findings at annual conferences, helping shape the future of RNA biology.
Parent Group
Research
Parent Group Research is for parents who want to also contribute to scientific literature and see what their students are doing. By applying miRcore’s data-driven approach, these members critically explore topics in genomics and small RNA biology—often working in parallel with student groups. Together, they put scientific concepts to the test through collaborative analysis, data interpretation, and literature integration. The group’s work culminates at the end of the year when they have a chance to produce abstracts and papers, contributing meaningful findings to the scientific community while deepening their understanding of biomedical research.
