Overview: This camp provides basic usage of Linux commands to run bioinformatics programs. Several problems to edit files using command lines will be explored. Lunch is included in the fee. Bring your laptops. Instruction will be sent to Window users to prepare your computers before the camp. You can enjoy Linux on your computer after the camp.

Goals

  1. Expose high school students to the emerging era of medical genomics, when all doctors must be well-acquainted with genetic discoveries, technologies, and applications.
  2. Support GIDAS (Genes In Diseases And Symptoms) club members for in-depth knowledge in the field.

Goal: Understand basic Linux
10:30 am – 11:30 am Practice Linux
Individual challenge to solve problems using Linux comands
Goal: Be able to format gene expression data using Linux
11:30 am – noon Linux Function Competition
Play games to memorize Linux commands
Goal: Become familiar with Linux commands
noon – 12:30 pm Grab Lunch
12:30 pm – 1:30 pm Shell Script
Write a simple shell script and run the script
Goal: Learn to run a Linux program
