Welcome to the miRcore volunteer program!

We are holding the first meeting of the 2020-21 school year on Oct 3, 2020, 2-4 pm. Although it is a mandatory meeting for both parents and students, I understand if some people cannot make it. Please respond to the attendance projection form so that I can provide a meeting link to participants and a recording of the meeting for those who cannot make it.

To clarify, our normal meeting recordings are available only to those who have regular student membership. Those who attended a camp this past summer can upgrade from basic to regular membership for $60.

However, essential meetings like this one will be available to all MVP students and parents.

1) 2020-21 disease of focus: COVID-19
Thanks everyone for voting on a disease of focus. I believe this choice is both relevant right now and may also have far reaching impacts in many areas.

2) Coordinate with UM GIDAS
I am excited to say that UM GIDAS is planning to help MVP more. Their research session is 1-2 pm on Saturdays to better connect with MVP. On Oct 3rd, they will host an invited speaker, Michael Boehnke, Ph.D. a distinguished University Professor and Director of Center for Statistical Genetics and Genome Science Training Program, University of Michigan.
In addition to his talk on current diabetics research, he will talk about how to navigate college. I highly recommend attending this talk. It is open to all MVP students, parents and GIDAS members.

3) Preparation for Oct 3rd meeting.
I usually do not give homework. However, this is an unusual start for an unusual time.
One advantage of focusing on COVID-19 is the abundance of research and educational efforts from various entities. I found an excellent webinar on COVID-19 vaccines by Dr. Alex Dainis from miniPCR.

To fast forward our research and understanding of COVID-19, please watch the COVID-19 vaccine webinar as well as reviewing the following content. Please save the response email that you will receive after submitting the form for our meeting/discussion session.

Fill out this form after watching the webinar (this contains the same questions from their study section, which they gave us permission to use).

I’m looking forward to seeing your enthusiastic faces and getting to know you more!
